Prayer for Today

God is greater than

January 22, 2016

Lord, You said, “As a man thinks so is he.” So today, I think I am greater than any adversity that may come against me, because greater is He that is within me than he that is in the world. I think I am more than a conquer through Jesus Christ my Lord. I think You are able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than I can ever ask, think or even imagine. I think that You are my hope, song, joy, and contentment in the middle of my battles.

I think that I am the head and not the tail, the first and not the last. I think You will perfect everything that concerns me. I think that I have been made to prosper spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially in this life. I don’t have to wait until I get to heaven to live a life full of promise, hope and goodwill. I believe that You have purposed that I will live a life full and abundant with everything I need according to Your riches in glory right now.

I think that my family is blessed. I think that the works of my hands are blessed. I think that I am blessed and that I operate in wisdom, power and authority. As I think so I am, therefore I will think upon Your Word and I will be blessed.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Father, Your word says that You sent Your son Jesus to give us life and that we would have life more abundantly through Him. Too often I find myself living a life of lack of the things that really matter. I find myself living a life that lacks peace of mind, joy, contentment and peace. I find myself complaining about what I don’t have, what I didn’t get and what I can’t do, rather than thinking about and being grateful for what You’ve given me, allowed me to obtain and Your favor that rest on my life. Forgive me for taking for granted all the great and wonderful things You’ve made available to me that I don’t take advantage of on a regular basis.

Father, I will not just live, I will thrive and prosper beyond the normal. Not thriving and prosper in just material things, but thriving and prosper in the things that will make me a better person; a better child to my parents, a better parent to my children, a better husband or wife to my spouse and a better child to You.

I will prosper by reading Your word, praying to You on a regular basis, obeying Your word and being diligent in doing the things I know are right.

I will live above the fray of mediocrity. I will live with my mind on things I can do to help the world be a better place and with my mind steadfast on You. I will not live beneath my spiritual blessings, which You have provided for me through Christ Jesus. I will live in the overflow and outpouring of Your love. I will not live just getting by but I will live standing on Your promises to me, Your child. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Today

Underserving but thank you Jesus

October 19, 2015

Father, I thank You for blessing me with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus.

Your Word says skillful and godly wisdom is in my house., which means my life, home and family are built on and through the understanding of Your word.  My home is made whole and it at peace through You. My home is established on a sound, solid and good foundation. By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches — great priceless treasure: love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, goodness, and joy.  Prosperity and welfare are in my house

Father in everything we do, we are working to take a righteous stand. Whatever You have given us to do, our family work at wholeheartedly, knowing that it’s for Your glory and not for men.

Father, we love each other with Your kind of love; sometimes we don’t show it, but we really do love each other and purpose to live in peace. Father, I give my home to Your charge. I entrust my house and the material gain, but most of all, the people who live in my home, into Your protection and care.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Lord God, with man things are impossible but with You, nothing is impossible!

Father it seems that one thing after another keeps springing up in my life. Just when I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, BAM, all goes black again because another issue has come up. I’m shaking my head! It feels like it will never stop!

On the outside it looks impossible but nothing is impossible for You. On the surface it looks like I’ll never make it through all the obstacles that are draining my finances, swallowing up my peace of mind and attacking my joy. I am exhausted just thinking about it all!

That is why I’m bringing all my baggage to You. Father, I need Your help with

Marigold or Rose?

     Vanilla Marigolds  cropped-good-as-gold.jpg

Psalm 73:1 – 3

“Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold.  For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

I planted a new flower bed in my backyard this spring. I worked on the flower bed for days because I wanted to plant 6 new roses, which I did, but along with the roses I planted some marigolds. Five of the roses I planted died and the one that is still alive is struggling but the marigolds are thriving and blooming like nobody’s business.

I’m sure if my one struggling rose could talk it would be angry, envious and jealous of the marigolds. If that one rose had eyes, it would be sick of seeing vanilla colored marigolds blooming and taking over the space that was meant for the rose.

Here’s the deal; marigolds are perennials, they die after their blooming season. They do not have longevity of live. They are here, blooming and looking beautiful one season and in the trash the before the next season is over. On the other hand, roses are annuals; they live and bloom for years. I have some roses that are almost 20 years old. As long as I can keep my one surviving rose alive during the winter season, it will live and bloom next season and for years to come plus, the rose will get stronger as it lives through the winter seasons.

My marigolds are like the rich wicked people in this life; oh, they are living well now, they are wealthy, rich, attractive and carefree…today, but how about long-term? Those of us who are in Christ are like the rose; we may be struggling, but we have been promised abundant life in this age and eternal life in the one to come. The wicked don’t have those promises to lean and depend on.

It is easy to see the arrogant wicked people and feel the pang of jealousy or envy but we can’t allow what we see in them to cause us to lose our hope in God. We can’t allow their seemingly carefree life to cause us to think our goal of keeping our hearts pure before the Lord is in vain (Ps. 73:12 – 14).

We must remember that there is more to live than just money, fame and fortune. There is love, peace, joy, contentment, integrity, honesty, hope and truth, all found in our relationship with God through Christ Jesus.

You and I may cry out, “Lord, why can’t I have just a little of their money?” But, they may be crying out, “Why can’t I have peace of mind?” See, we only see the outside of the situation; we only see what the camera shows us, we can’t see their hearts but it’s not about what we see, it’s about a relationship with God and believing, even when we’re struggling, that long-term God will always be true to His promises to us.

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” II Corinthians 1:20

March 23, 2015

Father, today I feel overwhelmed! It’s like everything is coming down on me at one time. I can barely breathe! I’m too busy for my own good!

Father I feel like I moved from having a full plate of things to do, to having an overflowing platter of things to do. I can’t even figure out what to do first because everything and everyone is screaming, “ME FIRST!” I feel like my life is spinning out of control. I just want to yell “STOP!” and hit the restart button so I can begin again.

Father I need You! I need You to give me an inner calm and an inner peace so I can think. I need You to help me figure out all the stuff I have going on in my life and help me decide what I need to do verses what I can give to someone else to do. Father, help me focus on You so You can focus me.

I know I’ve done this to myself and I am not ashamed to say I need You to help me sort out the mess I’ve made. I will do like Jesus, I will pull away from all the stuff and listen for You. I know You will tell me what I need to know, You will give me inner calm and peace and You will help me not to get into this predicament again if I listen and follow You. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Hold On Part II

Hold On – Part II

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said, ‘Never will I leave your; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”’ Hebrews 13:5 – 6

God has told us that he will never leave us; he will always be with us. This is why we don’t have to seek after the things of the world system. We don’t have to love money, fortune or fame. We don’t have to give up our morals nor ethics in order to fit in with the world. We don’t have to go along to get along with everyone else because God the father has made us a promise; ‘I will never leave your; never will I forsake you.’

This means as children of God we can stand and fight just like the Israelites stood and fought at Jericho, using unorthodox methods by the world’s standards. Who marches around a fortified wall and sings in order to bring the wall down? Who show’s love and compassion to the people who are trying to take their jobs, their home or their car? Those who trust in God do because we know, God is with us!

We can hold on when it looks like all is lost because we have confidence that our God is not only with us, but he’s for us! We can be strong and courageous, unswerving and stout-hearted because we know that no matter what happens God is standing beside us to care for us.

Even in the most desperate or difficult times we can keep our lives free from the love of worldly things  and be content with what God has given us because we know that God will provide for all our needs according to his riches in glory through his son, Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:19).

Proverbs 19:23 says it like this: “The fear (respect) of the Lord leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” If we respect the truths of God; that he is with us at all times, that he will supply our needs and that no one can do anything to us that God hasn’t ordained, then we can rest untouched by trouble!

DO NOT GIVE UP NOW! God has been and will continue to be with you.  He sees what you’re going through and he’s right beside you to help you through it. This is not the time or place to give up!  Just keep your eyes fixed on Jesus because he is walking right in front of you; The Holy Spirit is leading, guiding and directing you down the correct path for you. Remember Gods’ hook, “Hold on, I’m here!”

Prayer for Today

February 13, 2015

Father, allow your glory to fill my heart today. Let your peace prevail in my life. Let your joy overflow in my home and allow your grace and mercy to cover every aspect of my life. I feel that things going on in my life are trying to overtake me, but I will open my heart and mind to your peace, joy, grace and mercy, and I will find rest for my soul.

Everything is not going the way I wanted or expected it to go but I put my trust in you. Even though I don’t understand what you are doing, I know you have my best interest at heart and are working to prefect me in Christ Jesus.

I know you have a purpose and a plan for me. I know you have placed me on this path so I can fulfill your plans. I will trust in your unfailing love for me and will walk on this path until you tell me to do something else. I will trust your peace, joy, grace and mercy to override all outside factors that are vying for my attention. I will keep my eyes stable and fixed on you, trusting you to lead me safely on my journey to fulfilling your plans for me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Oh, What A Friend – Part II

From the book: It’s Still Relative (The Word of God for Today’s World)

“You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:14

In our earthly friendships there is a level of equality between friends. Not so in our friendship with God. It is through my relationship with Jesus that we have friendship with God but God is not our equal even through he’s our friend. Here’s why we not equal to God:

1. His standards are always right.

2. His word is always true.

3. His promises are always kept.

4. God has never, and won’t ever, make a mistake.

5. Gods’ will has and will always prevail.

6. Gods’ way has been and will always be perfect.

7. Gods’ decisions are based on the whole picture and not limited to a specific amount of knowledge.

No one is God except God. No matter how much we pray, how many times a week we fast or how much we give to the poor, we are not God. We are sinners, saved by Gods’ grace. We are given new mercies every day by the unmerited favor of God through Christ.

Our role model for living a life of friendship with God is Jesus. In order to have a true friendship with God, we must do what Jesus did. First, Jesus spent quality time with God (Luke 22:39 – 41). Second, Jesus counseled with God about decisions that needed to be made (Luke 6:12 – 13). Third, even though Jesus was the only begotten Son of God, he walked humbly before God. (John 5:30). The fourth thing Jesus did to strengthen his friendship with God was to think of other more than he thought of himself (John 22:42).

Jesus’ death was not about his friendship with God, it was about OUR friendship with God. Jesus knew unless he died and atoned for the sins of the world, we would never have the opportunity to reconcile with God. Jesus knew unless he died human kind would never have the opportunity to form a friendship with our Creator.

Jesus did the hard work regarding our relationship with God. He bought our salvation by his sacrifice. It is our responsibility to nurture our friendship with God and to cultivate our relations with him by following Jesus’ example of spending time with God, seeking God’s counsel before we make decisions, walking humbly before God and caring about others more than caring about ourselves.

It is a blessing to sing the old spiritual that says, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grieves to bear. What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer.”

Oh, What A Friend – Part I

From the book: It’s Still Relative (The Word of God for Today’s World)

“You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:14

There is a song by Walter Hawkins that says, “If you ever need a friend that sticks closer than any brother I recommend Jesus, Jesus because he’s that kind of friend. He will never, never forsake you. Even though he every thing there is to know about you. I recommend Jesus, Jesus because he’s that kind of friend.”

Friends have things in common. Shared interest like shopping, cooking, sports or books. There is something that causes them to be drawn together – hence they get to know each other and begin to share. Out of that sharing a friendship emerges.

Over time a simple association turns into a friendship, which turns into a closer relationship until there forms a mutual level of knowledge about each others character traits, like and dislikes. You get to know each others concerns, strengths and weaknesses.

Jesus gave us the ability to have a friendship with God. Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit so we can have a relationship with a Holy God. Jesus gave us righteousness so we have that trait in common with the Righteous God. Jesus gave us the mind of Christ so we can understand the secrets of God’s words and live in His truths. Jesus came to give us eternal life, so we can live with our friend, God, forever.

Jesus does not lessen God so He can be our friends. When we accept Jesus as our savior, he elevates us so we can become friends of God. Jesus gives us everything we need; holiness, righteousness, peace, love, joy, self-control, etc. so that we have the traits of God  and can take on his characteristics.

Jesus didn’t come to compromise God so that we can live anyway we want and still call ourselves Christians. Jesus did not come to lower God’s standards to the world’s standards. NO! Jesus came to elevate us to God’s will for our lives.

Are you living up to your friendship with God?
