Prayer for Today

God is preparing you for greatness

February 3, 2016

Father, You have given me a heart to go after my destiny by using the gifts, talents and abilities You placed in me at the beginning of time. Now Lord, give me the plan for fulfilling my life purpose.

Lord, put good people around me as wise counsel so my plans will succeed. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me into all Your truths. Allow me to write the vision You’ve given me for my ministry/my business. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the help of others, I will see my vision come to fruition. Strengthen my heart so that I will not grow weary of doing good.

Help me to focus on my destiny not my past Lord so I can remain steadfast, immovable and not swayed by the storms of life. If I keep my eyes on You, I will remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, who no foe can stand against.

This year I will be steadfast in pursuit of my destiny! I will not be defeated! This is my “Yes” year! In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer for Today

Set back - come back

January 26, 2016

Father, as I press towards the mark of the higher calling in You (Philippians 13:12 – 14) and I seek after the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33), I find my inner voices reminding me of my past failures. Failed marriages, failed businesses, failed projects and failed relationships all come flooding back to me as I work to set plans to fulfill my God given purpose.

The feelings of disappointment that each failure caused begins to sweep over me like a storm driven wave. I end up thinking, “how can the God of all possibly use me to accomplish greater?” I find my steps slowing, my optimistic outlook weaning and my spiritual esteem faltering.

Then Lord, I consider the life of David. He was an adultery, a cold-hearted murderer and less than a stellar parent, yet You Father God, gave him the title of “a man after my own heart.” (Acts  13:22 – 23) Then I know there’s hope for me!

You Father God are not a respecter of person (Acts 10:34). If You allowed David to be the beginning of the greatest dynasty in history and showed him favor despite his failures, You will do the same for me if I do everything You want me to do.

So I press towards the greatness that has been deposited in me! In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Today

12.Faith-without-Works

January 25, 2016

Father God, speaking “greater is coming” but not acting like I believe that it’s true is a waste of time.

I know acting like I believe it means that I change my words and my actions. Father God, help me to change my action so, by the power that You have invested in me, I can bring about the greater that I keep saying is coming.

My actions must show that I’ve moved from doubt and fear to belief and faith. My actions should show that I’ve left past failure in the past and am moving forward to greater triumphant.

Father, if I really believe that greater is coming, I must set aside time to spend with You one-on-one because it is through You; Your word and Your spirit, that my faith will be built up to believe that greater is here, in me and even more greater works will I do.

Father, help me to set aside unnecessary stuff so I can get in Your face, which is the face of greater. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Today

I Thess 5 16

January 12, 2016

Father, as I take the time to look back over the last year, I realize I need to ask for Your forgiveness. Last year I didn’t focus on You. I didn’t focus on the goodness or the kindness You showed me every day.

I was focused on the things of this world – my financial shortfalls, the things I wanted that didn’t seem to come my way.  I focused on what I don’t have much more than I focused on the good You provided to me every day. For this, I am sorry and ask for Your forgiveness.

Lord, this year I commit to being more thankful. I will be thankful for Your love, Your goodness and Your provisions. I may not have everything I want, but You promised to supply my needs, not my greed. I may not have what I think someone else has, but I know You have my best interest at heart. I may not be able to accomplish everything I think I want to, but help me to accomplish everything You purpose me to do.

Lord, I commit to focusing on You, Your love and the mercy You show me and my family. I will purpose to be in a position of praising You for everything I have every day, and I will not complain as much this year as I did last year. I will allow Your grace and mercy to speak out of my life and into the world so that people can come to know You for themselves.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Today

God is faithful

October 1, 2015

Father God, I often pray the part of the Lord’s Prayer that says, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” without thinking about what I’m really saying. Today I am asking for Your will to be done in my life.

Father, You know what good, right and is perfect for me because every good and perfect gift comes from You. You know exactly what I need and when I need it. You know how to show Your strength, power and righteousness through my life. Today I commit to submitting to Your overarching authority over my life and I permit You to have Your perfect way in me.

Lord, when my flesh starts to scream because it is uncomfortable, comfort me by Your Holy Spirit. Father, I’ve been praying for (fill in whatever you’ve been praying for. Some examples: a closer walk with God, a healthier lifestyle, a mate, a change of heart, a financial blessing, your children, deliverance from past pains, etc.) ___________________________________________________ and I know the first step to moving forward in this is for Your will to be done in my life.

I will not listen to unwise council. I will keep my eyes steadfast and fix on You because You are the author, the perfecter and the finisher of my faith.

In Jesus name I pray.  Amen.

Prayer for Today 09-03-2015

If you are serious about allowing God’s word to cleanse, renew and revive you then you need to commit to spending time in His word. At the * fill in how much time you are willing to commit to reading the Bible. Make it realistic!

If you don’t read your Bible on a regular basis, start with something easy like 15 minutes a day or a chapter a day. If you’re not accustomed to reading the Bible, I suggest you start with the New Testament. Start with either the gospel of Matthew or John.

Make sure you have a Bible you understand. If you’re like me and the King James Version (KJV) isn’t your thing, it’s okay. There are a ton of versions out there you can use. If you’re not sure what version is right for you, email me.

If you read your bible regularity add some time to study your Bible. That’s right, there is a difference between reading and studying. If you need some suggestions for the type of study material you need, just email me.

Prayer for Today

September 3, 2015

Heavenly Father, yesterday I prayer for a spiritual refreshing; a revival of the heart. It wasn’t just idols words, but a cry for help. There is so much going on and I feel overwhelmed by it all. I know I have my peace in You but I don’t feel peaceful. I know You have given me unmerited favor, but I look at my bills, my family and the world in general and I don’t feel like I’m being treated with favor.

Father, help me to operate in the truth of Your word and not the lies of the world system. Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Your word will lead me and guide me on the correct path for my life. Your word is my road-map to life. Forgive me for not spending time in Your word.

Today I commit to spending *_______________________________________ in Your word daily. Speak to me. Speak Your truth to me so that I may be clean, renewed and revived by You and for Your service. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Today

Two faced woman

September 2, 2015

Father God, forgive us for being multiple faced. Too often when we, Your children, are with one group of people, who believe something this is against Your word, we say we agree with them. Then, when we’re with another group, we say we agree with them. Yet when we’re at our houses of worship, we say we agree with Your word even though none of the groups are saying the same thing.

Sometimes we get to the point we feel almost spiritually schizophrenic because we refuse to stand on the truth of Your word. We operate with the weight of lies on our tongues and with deceit in our hearts but still say we are Your children; a royal priesthood selected by You for Your service. Forgive us!

Lord, forgive us for being double minded. We say one thing with our mouths but believe something else in our hearts. We say You are the author of our faith and then we turn around and come up with our own plan without consulting You and waiting for You to answer.

Father, forgive us for quoting Your word but then being too fearful to follow Your word. Your word says the power of life and death is in our tongues. We keep speaking death over our lives and then we can’t figure out why we are spiritually, mentally, emotionally, financially and physically dying.

Our Lord and our God, we need a spiritual refreshing; a heart revival. Please Lord, revive us again!  Lord we need You! In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Diversity face

September 1, 2015

Father, it has gotten to the point I hate watching the news. Killings are mounting up daily, and every day we see citizens killing citizens, police killing citizens and citizens killing police. It is just too much!

All types of movements are springing up and saying this life matters and that life matters, as if You didn’t make all life and all life doesn’t matter to You. Forgive us Father!

Lord, for those of us in the body of Christ who have been given the charge of loving You and loving mankind, help us to see human life; which born or unborn,  Black, White, Hispanic, Asian or other, is important to You.

When Jesus came to die for the sins of the world, it wasn’t just for Jewish sinners, Muslim sinners or Christian sinners. He didn’t just die for sexual sins or moral sins. Jesus loved all sinners enough to die for all our sins. Forgive us Father for acting like, and treating others as if their sins are greater than our own. For we have all sinned and fallen short of Your glory.

You have told us to love each other to the point that we are willing to lay down our lives for theirs. You did not tell us to judge them by their lifestyle, their tattoos or their hairstyles. Your word says, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Father, increase our hearts capacities to love others like You love us; without finding fault, without holding our sins against us and without treating us as outcasts. You loved us back to wholeness in You; help us do the same for someone else that needs You as much as we need You.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!

Go With What You Know

Slingshot

I Samuel 17:38 – 39

Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off.”

In the scripture above David was going out to kill Goliath. That was his plan from the beginning; to kill the person who was bringing reproach against the God of Israel. Yes, there were other people who heard Goliath’s threats and they planned to do nothing. Yes, there were people who were better prepared, with more experience and better equipped than David to battle Goliath but they didn’t have the heart, the passion or the resolve of David to protect the name of the Lord.

Everyone is always talking about how David went out to kill Goliath with a slingshot and five smooth stones but I think David went out with much more than human eyes can see. First, David went out to kill Goliath with history. He knew what God would do in order to protect him. God had given David the strength to fight and kill a bear and a lion, two foes that were mightier and fiercer than any man.

Second, David went out against Goliath with courage. To fight a bear and a lion in order to save some sheep means David had a level of courage locked in his DNA that not everyone has at their disposal. It’s like the Marines, policemen, firemen or another first responder; while everyone else is running away from terror or a disaster, they are running towards it. Not everyone has what it takes to do these types of jobs. David had what it took to lay his life on the line for some sheep; certainly, he had what it took to lay his life on the line to protect the name and character of his God.

Third, David went out to kill Goliath with equipment he was accustomed to using when he was in battle. Saul tried to give David his equipment but David declined because Saul’s equipment didn’t fit David; it was not designed for the type of fighting David was used to doing.

There are things that God has told, or will tell, you do to that looks like someone else is better qualified to do, but they don’t have what it takes. They don’t have the heart, the passion or the resolve to do what God needs to have done. That’s why He’s asked, or will ask, you to do it!

You have everything you need to do what God has asked, or will ask, you to do. You have the history, the internal resolve and the equipment you need to get it done!

Oh yes, there is one more thing about David that should be admired and imitated; he didn’t procrastinate! He went out to kill Goliath right away. He didn’t give himself or anyone else time to talk him out of it.

When God asked us to do something we need to move out quickly and go with what we know!

“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” James 4:17

You Weren’t Meant For This

Handcuffs

Galatians 6:4

But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.”

I love crime shows! Watching how someone almost gets away with a crime, particularly murder fascinates me.

I am also amazed at the people in the shows who have long histories of crime and punishment. These people have committed crime time after time and been caught time after time. You would think they would figure out that their not good at being a criminal and find another line of work, but I guess that would take too long.

The person who should give up a life of crime would have to find out what their good at, what they are passionate about and what it takes to get into that field. It would take self-examination and time to find out what they should be doing because it’s obvious, to me, that a life of crime is not their call or their vocation.  But, they would rather try to follow in someone else’s footsteps and try to be something they are not, rather than figure out who they really are and what they are really good at doing. Consequently, they end up incarcerated over and over again.

It’s just like many Christians who try to be something they are not or try to do something they were not created to do for God’s kingdom. No matter how hard we try, we still get caught by God and the masses who know we are not doing what we were created to do. In fact, in our heart of hearts, we know that we’re not good at what we are trying to do, but it’s easier to imitate someone else than it is to develop the person God has created us to become for His glory.

Like the criminal who gets caught over and over again, the Christian who would rather mimic someone else rather than grow into their authentic selves, is looking for an easy way out; a shortcut. In Christ there are no shortcuts to fulfilling our calls.

If there was a shortcut available for Jesus, don’t you think He would have taken it rather than being brutalized and then hung on a cross to die for the sins of the world? There is no shortcut to becoming who God created us to be for His use in His kingdom.

If you are trying to be something or do something you are not, or you’re not sure of what you’ve been called to do, then it’s time for you to ask, seek and knock.

  • Ask God the Father what He wants you to do now, today, to help you move into being your authentic self in Him;
  • Seek out scriptures in the bible to help sustain you until God answers;
  • Knock on God’s door in prayer until He gives you the answer you need.

Never settle to be an imitation of someone else. God didn’t make you a copy He made you an original. Never give up seeking who God created you to be and what He created you to do for His kingdom. There’s only one you, and you’re it!

“The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.” I Corinthians 3:8
