Prayer for Today

April 24, 2015

Father God, as Your children climb out of the pit of the world system into the marvelous light of Your Son Jesus Christ, we need You to help us redefine success and failure.

Your children know what the world calls success; big homes, expensive cars and lots of money. Unfortunately, too often these “successes” come with relaxed morals and lacking ethics. We see it all the time on the news and even in some churches.

We have looked at others who have all the things the world calls success and tried to mimic them. That’s why so many of us find ourselves broken and ashamed of what we’ve done and what we have become. Father, forgive us!

Lord, help us to seek after Your definition of success. Help us to look more and more like Jesus every day. Help us to obey Your Word even when we can’t figure out what You’re doing and, help us to seek after and fulfill the destiny You have planned for each of us.

Father help us replace our fear of earthly failure with the peace of being successful in You. Step by step and day by day help us to climb out of our spiritual pits so we can come into the full light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is in the precious name of Jesus we pray and say Amen.

Trust in God

April 23, 2015

Father, as Your children purpose to climb out of the muck and mire of the world system that we’ve put ourselves in, we’re going to need Your divine help in the area of our finances. Too many of us are over extended and underwater with our credit, mortgages and other payments.

We confess we have not been good stewards of what You have given us. We have sought after things we really didn’t need and as a consequence of our greed, we have placed ourselves in financial binds. Forgive us!

Father, we need Your wisdom regarding climbing out of these financial holes. Do we file bankruptcy? Do we go to credit counseling? Do we allow our homes to go into foreclosure? Do we allow other bills to go by the wayside while we pay off one debt at a time? We need an individual plan that fits each of our needs. Father, we are looking to You and You alone for our help.

Father God we know Your Word says You will supply all our of needs, not our greeds, according to Your riches in glory in Jesus Christ, so, even as we are climbing out of our financial holes, we are assured of Your blessings on our lives. Our needs will be met in Jesus name.

Lord God, we know Your Word says, “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another…” As we climb out of this hole please help us help each other. Help us love one another and help us to encourage one another. Father, we need You now, more than ever. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Prayer for Today

Climbing out of pit

April 22, 2015

Father God, You have given Your children everything we need to live a full and productive life. You have given us Godly wisdom. You have given us courage and boldness. You have given us the ability to produce wealth; not only material wealth but spiritual wealth. You have given us the power, the authority and the dominion to rule and rein in the earth.

Father, it is true that You have given us all of these things but, most of us don’t live up to the greatness You have bestowed on us. Most of us live from pay check to pay check because we’re too afraid to walk by faith and fulfill the destiny You have placed in our hearts and minds. Many of us live sad, depressed and less than productive lives because we’re trying to live like the world system says we’re supposed to live.

Father, too many of Your children are trying to live down to the level of the world rather than living up to the Kingdom of God.  You’ve called and positioned us to live life to the abundant, yet we wallow in the muck and mire of the world. Forgive us!

Father we need Your help to climb out of the pitfalls of this world. Father, help Your children we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer for Today

April 17, 2015

Lord, thank you for the history I have with You.  You have been with me from the beginning and You appointed everything in my life. My birth and all the circumstances surrounding it, where I lived, where I went to school, who I married, my children; everything about me was  appointed by You. Every turn in my life has Your fingerprints on it.  There is nothing about me that You don’t know.

Lord sometimes I feel my life is floundering or spiraling out of control. Father, help me remember my life was set apart by Your will for me, and everything that You ordained for me shall come to pass.

Lord, help me not to view hardships, trials or tribulations as permanent; thereby causing me to deal with the problem as a permanent fixture in my life.  Help me to view the difficulty with a Godly wisdom; knowing that You allowed the situation or circumstance I am facing to come into my life to make me more like Your son, Jesus Christ.

Lord, don’t allow me to forget that each difficulty I face will work for my good because I love You and You have called me to Your royal order. Remind me that I have already overcome every obstacle that will confront me because I am in Christ and He has already overcome the world.

Thank You Lord for helping me to see with spiritual eyes that I do not have to worry about life or body,  for You have already prepared a plan to take care of my every need.  A plan to prosper me not to hurt me – You are my hope and my future.  Lord your Word is my assurance that You are with me always, even to the end of time.  I pray in Jesus matchless name. Amen.

Prayer for Today

Sword Sharper than Two Edge Sword

April 14, 2015

Father, Your Word says I should seek Your counsel first, but seeking Your counsel takes so much time. Seeking Your counsel means I have to stop what I’m doing, read Your Word, think about what You’re conveying to me and then I have to internalize it. Lord seeking Your counsel takes effort and time.

The world system is constantly giving me its counsel without my asking for it. I don’t have to stop what I’m doing; I can just keep watching TV, listening to the radio or reading books that have nothing to do with my relationship with You and the world system keeps pouring its counsel into my ears. It may not be good counsel but they just keep it coming!

I’ve come to the realization that the world system does not have my best interest at heart. I need Your counsel and the input from other people who operate in Godly wisdom because I’m tired of making decisions that don’t give me what I want or worse, end up being bad decisions.

Lord God, I’m ready to make the effort to listen to Your counsel. I know that listening to You and those who operate in Your wisdom will propel me forward so I can make good decisions and become who You have purposed me to be from the beginning of time. Father God, help me! In Jesus name I pray and say, amen.

Prayer for Today

Faithful are the wounds of a friend

April 13, 2015

Father, help me to listen to the voices of the people who love me, care for me and have my best interest at heart. Sometimes their voices get drowned out by the same loud voices that drowned out Your voice and I end up making bad decisions because I pay attention to the wrong voices.

Father God, help me to listen to those who are close to me who have Godly wisdom and will speak the truth to me even if it’s not what I want to hear.

I know my spouse, significant other; parents; sibling and close friends know me better than anyone else. I should listen to them because they want what is best for me. The loud voices of the world what me to confirm to be and do what they tell me, even if it’s not good for me. The voices of the world don’t care about me!

Father, help me to hear and listen to the voices of the people You’ve placed in my life for my betterment. Help me Lord to block out and drowned out the voices of the world!

I pray with full sincerity in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer for Today

God whisper

April 8, 2015

Father God there are so many voices vying for my attention. Often the voices I need to pay attention to are drowned out by the loud voices that I should pay the least amount of attention. Help me Lord!

Father the external loud voices are usually people who want something from me. These voices usually come from marketers and advertisers who want to tell me how I should look, how I should feel or what I should eat, drink or wear. They want me to know what their pill or drug can do for me. All these voices lead me to believe I’m just now good enough the way I am.

Father, on the other hand, my internal loud voices are usually my low esteem, my past failures, my fears and doubts, which all lend themselves to my ability to have paralysis through analysis. I end up getting stuck where I don’t want to be but I can’t move because all I hear are the loud voices screaming at me. Help me Lord!

Father God these voices yell at me daily! I often listen to them more than I listen to Your still small voice that is gently whispering Your truth to me. Help me Father to pull away from all the loud voices so I can hear from Your through Your Word, through prayer and meditation.

Father, I want to set aside time during the day to shut out all the loud voices just so I can hear from You. This is my sincere, earnest and heartfelt pray I pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Dont look backLenten season challenge: Read the scriptures that are referenced at the bottom of each prayer every day during this Lenten season!

March 26, 2015

This is the day that You, Father God, have made and I will rejoice and be glad in it!

Father, I’m going to celebrate myself today. If no one says anything good or positive to me or about me, I will say good and positive things about myself. I am great and mighty in Your sight. There is nothing too difficult for me to grasp, understand and then carry out.

Yes, I’ve failed in the past. Yes, I’ve come up short. Yes, I’ve made bad decisions. And yes, I blow it from time to time. But I thank You for Your grace and mercy. I will fail again, but I will put You first and place my wholehearted trust in You. Then, I will be victorious in everything You set my hands to do. I will conquer every place that You set my feet. Nothing will be impossible for me.

I stand ready to achieve the greatness You have locked in my DNA. I am ready, willing and able to do everything You have purposed me to do.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!

learning to walk

Lenten season challenge: Read the scriptures that are referenced at the bottom of each prayer every day during this Lenten season!

February 27, 2015

Thank You Lord for giving me a heart to renew my mind in Your word. I will submit myself to You as I make a break from my old life. This is what the Lenten season is all about; breaking out of the old to become newer in Christ and allowing You to propel me forward in the sanctification process.

Father I know that as I press to be more like Jesus I’m going to be like a child who’s learning to walk. I’m going stand, titter and fall. I’m going to falter, fail and come up short of what I had hoped to accomplish, but that’s okay! This too is a part of the sanctification process. Thank you for Your forgiveness! So, here I go, out to conquer my old self one baby step at a time! In Jesus name. Amen.

Spiritual Night Travel

Pillar of fire“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.” Exodus 13:21

Has God ever required you to travel at spiritual night? Moving forward without the full plan to use as your guide or compass? He has required me to travel by spiritual night on more than a few occasions and I can tell you the journey took some time to get used to.

I am a planner. I believe in guidelines, timelines, procedures and schedules. The first time God required me to travel in spiritual night I was rebellious. I didn’t know where He was trying to take me or for what reason. I didn’t have a plan or know the purpose of the journey so I set down and wouldn’t move. I told God, “I’ll do what you tell me to do when you tell me what the end result is going to be and give me a plan!”

God began closing doors and locking windows in my life. And if that weren’t enough, He started turning up the heat making it impossible for me to stay where I was, so I took the only way of escape He left me.

Then I realized the way He had left me was dark because I hadn’t been that way before, I didn’t have a plan nor any experience to cling to during this time. I didn’t know how to travel this path but it was the only path God had left me. Everything else was cut off.

I cried out to God but there was only silence. I prayed but there was no answer. I resolved to go back to the way I had come but I couldn’t because all roads leading back had been blocked. The only way I could go was forward, but how?

Even in our darkest times, during our spiritual night travels, God provides a pillar of fire to lead us. It may be on your coffee table or your night stand. You may have left it in your car from the last time you went to your house of worship, but it is your pillar of fire by night. It is the word of God!

In Exodus 13:21 the pillar of fire guided the people through the wilderness and assured them of God’s presence. That’s what God’s word does for us! Are you in a wilderness experience in your life right now? If so, here’s some light for you to walk in:

You are blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly realm – Ephesians 1:3

You are chosen by the Father – Ephesians 1:4

You are God’s workmanship – Ephesians 2:10

You are victorious – I John 5:4

You are an overcomer – Revelation 12:11

You are healed – I Peter 2:24

You are more than a conqueror – Romans 8:37

God has given you the ability to produce wealth – Deuteronomy 8:18

God hears you when you call – Isaiah 65:24

We’ll walk in the light, beautiful light. Come where the dew drops of mercy shine bright. Shine all around us by day and by night. Jesus, the light of the world.” George D. Elderkin
